Electric forklift for agriculture and farm storage

For fruit stores, wineries, cooperatives and sheds with a paved yard. On dirt, mud or loose gravel, you need a rough-terrain truck.

Where an electric truck fits and where it does not

Suitable

  • Fruit and produce stores, wineries, cooperatives and sheds.
  • Concrete or asphalt yards and loading bays.
  • Work with breaks, so the lithium battery can charge through the day.
  • Enclosed spaces: an electric truck has no engine exhaust.

Not suitable

  • Dirt, mud, loose gravel and farm tracks.
  • Continuous work with no breaks to charge, far from a socket.

For these cases, there are UN rough-terrain forklifts and the UN diesel forklifts, with prices.

For more ground clearance in lithium, see the FL series.

One figure helps decide: on the FE series, laden ground clearance is 110 to 130 mm under the mast and 120 to 150 mm at the centre of the wheelbase, according to UN’s brochure. It is a machine for firm ground, not loose terrain.

Tyres for farmyards and farm stores

Every model comes with pneumatic tyres in the base version. The other options are priced on top of the base:

Solid dual wheelsTwo solid wheels on each side at the front: more stability and less pressure on the floor.+ €2,060+ €2,270

Prices excl. VAT. With dirt or debris that causes punctures, solid tyres avoid downtime; for more stability and less ground pressure, dual wheels.

Ramps in the yard and for unloading

The FE series data sheet gives a maximum gradient of 15% laden and 15% unladen. That is a catalogue figure, not permission to drive on any ramp: the surface, the load and how high you carry it all matter. See the guide on the electric forklift outdoors (PT). The ramp for unloading the lorry is a separate matter: at the destination you need unloading equipment or ramps suitable for the truck.

Harvest season: battery hours by model

At grape or fruit harvest, the work is packed into a few weeks. Choose the battery by the hours of continuous work and the breaks when you can charge:

Hours: Continuous work, without stops, according to UN. A real shift has stops; with charging during breaks, the lithium battery can last a full shift. Prices exclude VAT. See also charging during breaks (PT).

Charging from the farm’s solar panels

If the farm already has solar panels, some of the charging can coincide with their output. It depends on charging times and the site’s other consumption; without measurements, no saving is promised. See the guide charging a forklift with solar power (PT).

The farm's solar study and installation are carried out by JP Solar Solutions, which also handles Torkka's enquiries: solar self-consumption for farms.

What to tell us in your request

  1. The weight of the heaviest load (bulk bins, big bags, pallets of fertiliser) and how high you lift it.
  2. The ground it drives on: indoors, paved yard, ramps.
  3. Working hours per day during the harvest and the rest of the year.
  4. Whether it works in rain or dust, and where it is parked and charged.

Frequently asked questions

Is an electric forklift suitable for a farm?

Yes, on firm ground: stores, wineries, sheds and paved yards. On the FE series, laden ground clearance is 110 to 150 mm, according to UN’s brochure. On dirt, mud or loose gravel, look at UN rough-terrain forklifts, supplied to order.

Which tyres for a farmyard?

The base version has pneumatic tyres, which ride better on uneven ground. Where debris can cause punctures, solid tyres add €800 on the FE FB25; for more stability and less ground pressure, there are dual wheels. Prices excl. VAT.

How many hours does the battery last during the harvest?

UN states 2 to 4 hours of continuous work, without stops, depending on the model and battery. A real shift has stops; with charging during breaks, the lithium battery can last a full shift. For longer shifts, compare the larger battery with charging during breaks.

Can I charge the forklift from the farm’s solar panels?

You can use solar output if charging coincides with it, after the site’s other consumption. Without measuring energy and timing, no saving can be guaranteed; the solar charging guide explains how to do the maths.
